HUGE Magic in Stockholm | 10 Years of SC Exhibitions

SC Exhibitions is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2018. We will be hosting a series of special events celebrating our anniversary throughout the year. To start 2018 off, we present this magical event series exploring the latest in street art – hosted at MAGIC CITY – THE ART OF THE STREET, at Magasin 9 in Stockholm.

Are the balloons above real? Are you sure? Come see us in Stockholm, from 22 to 25 February, and find out for sure.

23 & 24 February | Workshop | Jordan Seiler

Have you ever wanted to put your own work on the street? Have you ever wondered why advertising on our streets is legal and graffiti isn’t?

Jordan Seiler is an internationally recognised urban artist and public space activist whose work interrogates the relationship between commercial media, art, and our shared visions of utopia. Join Magic City and Jordan for a two-day workshop in which we will discuss the role that outdoor advertising and art plays in our cities, as well as create our own posters and install them in the street. Participants can expect a brief presentation and discussion to start the workshop.

23 & 24 February | Street Art: The Art of Invention | Brooklyn Street Art

Imagine taking a trip with Steve Harrington and Jaime Rojo through some of their favourite short video pieces from their popular BrooklynStreetArt.com feature: BSA Film Friday. Experimenters, explorers, and dreamers all, you’ll see how today’s street artists are transforming our cities with a certain new kind of inventiveness that is part science and part D.I.Y. Each Friday BSA readers enjoy thoughtfully curated films; now Stockholm has the opportunity to experience it LIVE at Magic City. Surprises are guaranteed.

24 February | Artist talk | HUGE

Daniel Fahlström aka "Huge" has been interested in art since childhood. When he discovered the graffiti culture at the age of ten, he opened a door to a whole new world and began painting both walls and tunnels in his hometown north of Stockholm. He is best known for his "Helium Graffiti", where he paints photorealistic texts in the form of helium balloons. The balloons typically reflect the surroundings where the painting is located.

24 February | Lecture "Social Factories: Prosumerism in the City" | Benjamin Schneider

Journalist Benjamin Schneider will discuss how a new genre of urban pleasure grounds is emerging in the social media age. Neither museum, nor store, these social factories are spaces designed almost exclusively to be documented via social media. Places like the Museum of Ice Cream are runaway successes, providing prosumers with the bright colors and unexpected decor already favored on Instagram. Social factories are the most extreme manifestation of social media's transformative effect on cities and urban life, shedding light on subtler changes taking place in restaurants, stores, and public space.

Benjamin Schneider is an editorial fellow at CityLab, where he covers California, transportation, and the intersection of cities and digital media.

22 & 25 February | Magic Lab - express yourself!

There is an artist slumbering inside you, set it free in MAGIC LAB, one of the highlights of the exhibition. Experienced artists from the Society for the Benefit of Graffiti (Graffitifrämjandet) teach you how to create Street Art and graffiti. You learn to design and realize your own styles using different techniques.

22 & 24 February | Guided tours - get wise!
